Alzheimer’s Training 2017

The Alzheimer’s or other dementias CARE Training Program offers a different approach for

the care of those who suffer from Alzheimer’s disease or other dementias. Instead of focusing on the symptoms, diagnosis, treatments and possible cures for Alzheimer’s disease –CAREGivers will be trained to use a variety of techniques to help manage behaviors and encourage engagement in seven interactive workshops that include discussions, videos, role plays, other hands-on activities and quizzes.

The CARES Training Program was created by Home Instead and a team of experts from the Mayo Clinic, The Nebraska Medical Center, University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, the American Society on Aging, the UNC Chapel Hill School of Social Work, and other experts on Alzheimer’s Care including Dr. Amy D’Aprix and David Troxel.

Seven topics include:

Alzheimer’s Disease and Other Dementia’s- an Overview, Capturing Life’s Journey, Techniques to Manage Behaviors, Encouraging Client Engagement, To Us, It’s Personal (Treating clients with dignity and respect and how to support family members), Assisting with Activities of Daily Living, Keeping Your Client Safe.

We will have 15 participants for each class and we will sign CAREGivers up for the training on a first come, first serve basis.
